Hubungan Pendidikan dan Paritas Ibu dengan Kelahiran Berat Badan Lahir Rendah diRSUD Datu Sanggul Rantau

One of the indicators to determine the degree of public health is the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). Infant Mortality Rate in Indonesia is still relatively high, which recorded 31 per 1000 live births, it is relatively high when compared with countries in the ASEAN and the most infant deaths are due to perinatal disorders. From all around 2-27% perinatal mortality is due to LBW. Meanwhile, the prevalence of LBW in Indonesia is estimated at 7-14% which is about 459.200-900.000 baby. Purpose of the research was to analysing the correlation of education and mother’s parity with the birth of LBW in RSUD Datu Sanggul Rantau in 2010. This research is a cross sectional study using collected at the same time with the check list. The statistical test used chi-square test. Samples had been taken using the technique of random sampling from population of 850 mothers who gave birth. Data were analyzed with univariate analysis of the frequency distribution of independent and dependent variables, and bivariate analysis using chi-square test with significance level 0.05. The results showed there is a significant correlation between education and parity on the occurrence of LBW. For the health workers to give information about the occurrence of low birth weight, so itcan lessen the occurrence of LBW.
